Public Transport - A Woman's (Girl's) Nightmare

Yesterday during the sermon, Pastor Sandeep flashed a slide which was a news paper article from the Deccan Chronicle with the heading "3 girls are raped every day in Andhra Pradesh". We all know that those are the numbers that the police have. We can't say what the real number is.

As I was going home from church, I was thinking what kind of men would commit such a crime. The answer came to me in the evening when I was returning home from my guitar class. I was in  a fully packed 7 seater auto. This auto has a seating capacity of only 12 people including the driver. But in most cases at all times there are more than 20 people, standing and hanging in these 7 seaters. It so happened that there were all women within the compartment and only one man. This man was drunk and he was breathing down upon me and another girl sitting next to me. We continually asked him to stand straight. He moved a little when we began asking the driver to ask this person the get off.

At the next stop another woman got in. I have no idea what happened but suddenly this woman started hitting this drunk man with her fists. Apparently this man tried to touch her. The driver had no choice now but to ask this man to get off and lose his 5 rupees. A person like this drunk man I think is very likely commit a crime like a rape. If he could molest a woman in public he could very well rape one too.

This is a daily occurance in buses and 7 seaters. Its not only the male passengers who commit such disgusting acts but also the bus conductors who are guilty of it. I've been a victim too and I surely think the men who can abuse women in public can commit a crime such as a rape without a second thought. Not only adult women but also little school going girls are their victims.

Is there a solution to this menace? Will there ever be an end?

Are the people like this drunk man only causing these issues? Not at all, I would say. Recently, one of the principal in a reputed English medium school in Kerala has been arrested for raping girl kids (below 12 years!!!!). He is one of the social worker and was a respected person in the society.Later so many parents came out saying their babes also had same experiences from the same principal. So many reports are coming like this everyday, reporting that educated, society poeple also moving towards this direction. Alcohol is one of the many reasons. But think about India where you can not sit peacefully at home when your girl babe is in her UKG standard and at school!!!! Its a shame on all of us.

As you told, the real number may be something high, the only thing is that many cases are not coming out because parents are always worried about their daughter's future.

Yes exactly, the drunk man I'm talking about and the principal that you are talking about are just examples of beasts in the form of man. No one can ever no how many more men educated and uneducated both are guilty of such exploitation. Its a real shame and a real curse for a girl to be born as a girl with such people around. Throughly disgusting and disheartening.
