Understanding Feminism
In a world where opinions stated or statements uttered
become subjects of heavy criticism, it is important to understand what feminism
truly is. We live in an ugly world, in which instead of encouraging and
building up each other, we have become more prone to trolling and criticising.
According to Merriam-Webster, feminism is “the theory of
the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes”. Google describes
feminism as “the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of
the sexes”. The keywords we need to pay attention to are ‘equality of the
sexes’. Yes, for all those who don’t know what feminism actually means - it is
simply a movement working towards ensuring the equality of all genders.
I have noticed that many women are confused by the term
feminism. Most believe if you’re a feminist, you want women to be greater than
men. This is not true. Real feminists only want equality for all genders,
whether female, male, or transgender. We see all genders as equal and want
equal rights and status in the society for one and all.
God created men and women as equals. While he gave men the
ability to procreate, He gave women the privilege of giving birth. Man cannot
procreate without women and women cannot give birth without man. Both go hand in
hand; which is why I see all genders as equal. I’m not sure I’m a feminist, my
husband says I am J
For all those who are confused, please know that feminism
is about equality. If you come across a movement or people who do not respect
all genders, or proclaim that women are greater than men, they are not
feminists. You will also come across radical ‘feminazis, who believe that the female gender
is the greatest in the world. Beware of such people as they do not help the
cause of equality but unknowingly work against it by proclaiming that one
gender is greater than the other.
